THE E&M announced on the 11th that it has signed a design service contract worth approximately 16.9 billion KRW for the Cheongna Video and Cultural Complex Project together with the comprehensive architectural firms Geonwon, Heerim Comprehensive Architectural Firm, and Geunjeong Comprehensive Architectural Firm (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Geonwon Consortium’).

Architectural firm Geonwon was ranked 1st domestically and 3rd globally in the residential category in the ‘2024 World Architecture Top 100’ announced by the UK architectural magazine Building Design. Heerim was ranked 6th overall, and Geunjeong has been responsible for numerous domestic and international design projects including Jeju International Airport and the new passenger terminal at Siem Reap International Airport in Cambodia.

This project, which aims to establish a globally competitive video industry cluster by complexly developing video production facilities and tourism cultural attraction facilities, is being carried out through a tripartite consultation among the competent authority, Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZ), the current landowner Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH), and the THE E&M consortium as the preferred bidder. After approval of the Phase 1 (urban planning) development and implementation plan change permits (including changes to land use plans and district unit plans), a business agreement will be signed, followed by the Phase 2 main design permit process.

Furthermore, THE E&M is continuously promoting collaboration and partnerships with global production companies and renowned producers in line with the purpose of the project contest. It also plans to participate as an official sponsor of the 29th Busan International Film Festival, held from October 2 to 11, to attract and promote domestic production of overseas films and dramas.

On October 3, THE E&M will participate as a host in the ‘Forum BIFF’ event section and hold a forum at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Busan, inviting Hollywood production staff. The purpose is to provide an opportunity to share Hollywood experience and know-how with domestic and international filmmakers.

A company representative stated, “Immediately after selecting the design firm, we also selected an urban planning firm and are quickly proceeding with consultations on the Phase 1 permit procedures,” adding, “The signing of the design contract is expected to accelerate the permit process.” They continued, “To successfully advance this project, we are planning continuous collaboration with global experts and various promotional marketing activities. We will focus our capabilities to demonstrate concrete results as soon as possible by equipping both hardware and software.”
