The Jungnangcheon in Dobong-gu is set to be illuminated with colorful lanterns.
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that the 2024 Dobong Lantern Festival will be held for seven days from September 21 to 27 at Jungnangcheon (in front of Seowon Apartment Building 105, Dobong 2-dong).
Now in its 12th year, the Dobong Lantern Festival is a representative festival of Dobong-gu that offers new sights and enjoyment to local residents every year.
This year, various exhibitions are prepared, including character lanterns, LED light sculptures, blacklight displays, and hologram media art shows.
On the opening day of the lantern festival, September 21, a lighting ceremony will be held at 6:30 PM. The ceremony will feature pre-performances by local artists, a performance by the Dobong-gu Office breaking dance team, and a spectacular stage by the brothers Little Psy Hwang Min-woo & Emotional Giant Hwang Min-ho.
Additionally, from 10 AM to 9 PM on the same day, food booths prepared by traditional market merchants and local professional organizations will operate in the idle space next to the Jungnangcheon children's water playground.
But that's not all. On the day of the lighting ceremony, the Seoul private festival "Dobongi Shining Night" will also be held, enhancing the festive atmosphere. On the Jungnangcheon deck path, a flea market featuring 20 experience programs and 30 local workshop businesses will take place. Also, a calligraphy and Hangul lantern experience by Park Byung-chul, a well-known calligraphy artist famous for the Gwanghwamun signboard, will be available.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, "On a cool autumn night, I hope everyone creates precious memories with their loved ones, partners, and friends at the Dobong Lantern Festival," adding, "We will do our best to prepare for a safe festival."
