Gyeonggi-do Increases Intercity Buses and Extends Urban Rail Service on Chuseok Day and the 18th

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 11th that it will implement a "Special Traffic Measures for the Chuseok Holiday" from the 13th to the 18th to support safe and convenient travel for citizens returning home and coming back during the Chuseok holiday period.

First, for intercity buses, the province will increase 89 buses on 42 routes across 5 regions and add 138 additional trips. City and village buses will be operated flexibly, such as extending operation by one hour according to the circumstances of each city and county if necessary. Urban rail lines including the Hanam Line, Line 7 (Bucheon section), and Byeollae Line will operate extended late-night services until 2 a.m. the next day on the 17th and 18th, Uijeongbu Light Rail until 1:45 a.m. the next day, and Gimpo Urban Railway until 3 a.m. the next day.

For habitual congestion sections on major expressways and national highways, real-time information on detours and interchange entry control will be provided through road message signs (VMS) to disperse traffic volume. Accordingly, in case of congestion on the five main axes of the Gyeongbu, Yeongdong, and Seohaean Expressways, detour routes on 13 surrounding sections will be guided, and for eight main axes including National Routes 1, 3, and 39, detour routes on 13 surrounding sections will also be provided.

During this special measure period, the province will establish an emergency communication system among related organizations centered on a special traffic measures situation room composed of 35 members in 2 teams.

Additionally, through the Gyeonggi Transportation Information Center website (gits.gg.go.kr), mobile app (Gyeonggi Transportation Information), and traffic information phone line (1688-9090), the province will provide information on congestion status on major roads within the province, fastest route guidance, and alerts on unexpected situations (traffic accidents, restricted areas). Operation information for city, intercity, and village buses within the province will be provided via the Gyeonggi Bus Information System’s mobile app (Gyeonggi Bus Information), website (www.gbis.go.kr), and ARS.

To ensure convenience and safe driving for travelers returning home, the province will carry out maintenance of poor road surfaces, road signs, and road facilities, and establish an emergency road repair system between the province and cities/counties to promptly respond to road erosion and damage.

Furthermore, in cooperation with cities/counties, bus transport associations, and bus terminals, inspection activities will be conducted during the holiday period to ensure compliance with operating hours, prevent refusal of boarding, prohibit solicitation, and establish transportation order and service quality.

Nam Sang-eun, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Transportation Bureau, said, "We will do our best to implement smooth and safe traffic measures so that residents can spend a safe Chuseok holiday," and urged, "Please actively participate in safe driving and use of public transportation to have a holiday period free of traffic accidents."
