Gang Su-hyun, mayor of Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province, visited Seoul City Hall on the 9th to discuss public transportation issues and held a meeting with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon.

According to Yangju City on the 10th, Mayor Gang explained to Mayor Oh about the recent issues surrounding the shortened route of the "Seoul Bus No. 704" and the "Line 3 extension" plan to connect the western area of Yangju to the subway. They had an in-depth discussion. Also attending the meeting were Ahn Ki-young, head of the People Power Party district committee, and Lee Young-joo, a provincial assembly member.

First, the "Seoul Bus No. 704" was scheduled to shorten its route from last month 30th by excluding Yangju and Goyang cities from its existing route, but the shortening was postponed by two months. Currently, it operates on the route between Jingwan Garage~Seoul Station~Songchu~Jingwan Garage. The route shortening was originally planned to take effect from November 1.

In response, the city newly established the alternative route "Yangju Bus No. 37" from last month 30th.

However, due to a shortage of bus drivers and other reasons, the Yangju Bus No. 37 is currently operating only between Yangju Natural Recreation Forest and Gupabal Station. Therefore, Mayor Gang Su-hyun requested an extension of the shortening date of Seoul Bus No. 704 until the end of this year to ensure smooth operation of Yangju Bus No. 37, and Mayor Oh Se-hoon agreed to accept the mayor’s opinion.

Additionally, to prepare for the route gap at Seoul Station caused by the shortening of Bus No. 704, they requested that Yangju Bus No. 37 operate all the way to Seoul Station. Seoul City responded that since the number of buses entering Seoul city has recently increased sharply, this matter requires review, but since it was part of the original agreement, they will continue to consult with the relevant departments.

Furthermore, Mayor Gang proposed a plan to extend Seoul Subway Line 3 from Jichuk Station to Yangju Jangheung and Yangju Baekseok·Gwangjeok, along with relocating the Jichuk Depot, currently managed by Seoul City, to the western area of Yangju as part of the Line 3 extension.

Mayor Gang Su-hyun said, “Since Yangju City and Seoul City are adjacent, I hope that through mutual and smooth consultations, the convenience of public transportation for local residents will be improved.”

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon replied, “We are always willing to discuss to resolve issues such as public transportation.”
