"Dog Delivery Service"... Animal Rights Group Files Complaints Against Coupang Sellers and Others

The animal rights organization 'CARE' has reported companies selling pets online without authorization to the police.

A sales post for purebred Shiba Inu and large native Korean dogs has been uploaded on Coupang. The post has now been deleted.

On the 10th, CARE announced that it filed a complaint with the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul against Coupang, Naver Smart Store, and other sellers for violating the Animal Protection Act.

Under current law, it is illegal to trade six designated types of pets, including dogs, cats, and hamsters, via courier services. When trading pets, transactions must be conducted directly between individuals or delivered only through animal transporters authorized by law.

Kim Young-hwan, CEO of CARE, said, "The violation of the law itself is problematic, but more fundamentally, animals may suffer during the sales process, which could constitute animal abuse." He added, "We have requested the police to investigate the possibility of violations of the Animal Protection Act."
