Hwaseong-si Receives Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation on 'Suicide Prevention Day'

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 10th that it received the Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation after being selected as an outstanding city/county in the '2023 Suicide Prevention Implementation Plan Performance Evaluation' at the '2024 Suicide Prevention Day' ceremony held at The Plaza Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.

The city added that this award is the result of Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun's proactive suicide prevention policies and efforts to promote citizens' mental health since the launch of the 8th local government administration.

Since taking office, Mayor Jeong has expressed a strong commitment to suicide prevention and has implemented citizen-centered suicide prevention policies. He established the first-ever 'Suicide Prevention Hotline' among basic local governments, creating a system where citizens can receive professional and immediate counseling and support.

In addition, the city has built a crisis response system in cooperation with the police, fire departments, and medical institutions, and secured 'Mental Emergency Response Private-Public Beds' to support citizens in mental health crisis situations with 24-hour medical treatment and hospitalization.

Mayor Jeong said, "This commendation is an acknowledgment of the city's efforts in suicide prevention and mental health promotion," adding, "We will continue to promote a culture of respect for life and persistently pursue various efforts to prevent suicide."
