YouTube Music Bundling Sanctions Begin After 2 Months
The Fair Trade Commission has launched an investigation into allegations that Coupang bundled its 'Coupang Play' and 'Coupang Eats' services with its membership program.
According to industry sources on the 10th, the Fair Trade Commission sent investigators to Coupang's headquarters in Songpa-gu, Seoul, to secure materials related to membership operations. It is reported that the commission conducted its first on-site investigation to determine whether Coupang's provision of the separate services Coupang Play and Coupang Eats budget delivery service for free while operating the Wow membership constitutes prohibited 'tying sales' under the Fair Trade Act.
Earlier, the 'Online Platform User Complaint Center,' composed of the People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy's Livelihood Hope Headquarters and others, filed a complaint with the Fair Trade Commission in June accusing Coupang of violating the Fair Trade Act. The group claimed at the time, "Coupang unilaterally raised the Wow membership price by about 58% while engaging in tying sales by providing the separate services Coupang Play and Coupang Eats budget delivery service for free."
