Incheon City Implements Wheel Lock Measures on Vehicles of Local Tax Delinquents Owing Over 1 Million Won

Incheon City will strengthen the disposal of vehicles owned by delinquent taxpayers to increase the collection rate of local tax arrears.

The city announced that starting from the 10th, wheel locking measures will be applied to vehicles of local tax delinquents with arrears of 1 million won or more.

Until now, the city only confiscated vehicle license plates in cases of automobile tax arrears according to Article 131 of the Local Tax Act, but considering that some delinquents pay only the automobile tax and not other local taxes, this decision was made.

Accordingly, the city will first proceed with the seizure of vehicles belonging to 821 local tax delinquents in 10 districts and counties, and for 1,697 long-term delinquents whose license plates have been confiscated for more than three months, it plans to promote vehicle towing and public auction.

An official from Incheon City stated, "We will create a fair tax payment culture by strengthening wheel locking and forced towing in response to chronic and habitual local tax delinquents."
