The government will erect sculptures in major cities to commemorate the sacrifices and dedication of war heroes.

On the 10th, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced that it will promote the 'Hero Road' project to install sculptures honoring the heroes of the Korean War in 10 major cities from Incheon to Busan within this year. The name 'Hero Road' is a compound of Hero and Road, and the project aims to remember the achievements of the heroes who protected the Republic of Korea during the crisis of the Korean War.

In Ara Bicycle Path, Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, a sculpture honoring the late Admiral Son Won-il, known as the 'Father of the Republic of Korea Navy,' has been erected. The unveiling ceremony will be held on this day ahead of the Incheon Landing Operation Victory Memorial Day (September 15).

Admiral Son founded the 'Liberation Corps,' the precursor of the Korean Navy, on November 11, 1945, and was appointed the first Chief of Naval Operations in 1948. When the Korean War broke out, he commanded the navy to victories in the Battle of Okgyo and the Battle of the Korea Strait. He also participated as the highest commander of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces during the Incheon Landing Operation.

Earlier in July, the Ministry installed sculptures in Mungyeong City, Gyeongbuk, honoring the late Army Brigadier General Park No-gyu, who was active in the Ihwaryeong and Mungyeong battles, and the late Army Brigadier General Kim Yong-bae, a war hero from Mungyeong.

Kang Jeong-ae, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, said, "We hope that through the sculptures installed in 10 locations nationwide, the public can remember and honor the sacrifices and dedication of the heroes, including the history of the Korean War, in their daily lives."
