On the 9th (local time), Daehan Electric Wire announced on the 10th that it held a completion ceremony for Daehan Kuwait. Daehan Kuwait is the first optical communication cable manufacturing corporation in Kuwait, established through a joint investment with Rank, a leading local construction and trading company in Kuwait.
The event was attended by officials from Daehan Electric Wire and the Kuwaiti government. On the Korean side, attendees included Song Jong-min, Vice Chairman of Daehan Electric Wire; Park Jong-seok, Ambassador of Korea to Kuwait; and Lee Hyung-seok, Head of KOTRA Kuwait Trade Center. On the Kuwaiti side, participants included Zaid Abdullah Al-Najem, Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry; Abdullah Khalid Al-Ajmi, Vice Chairman of the Information and Communication Technology Regulatory Authority; and Atallah Al-Mutairi, CEO and Chairman of Rank.
The Daehan Kuwait factory was built on a 5,000㎡ (approximately 1,500 pyeong) site within the Mina Abdullah Industrial Complex, southeast of Kuwait City, the capital of Kuwait. It is equipped with the same production facilities and testing equipment as Daehan Electric Wire’s Dangjin cable factory. Full-scale production is planned to begin in mid-this month after product certification is completed.
Daehan Electric Wire aims to dominate the Kuwaiti optical cable market, which has been entirely dependent on imports. Optical cables are seeing increasing global demand due to the expansion of 5G infrastructure based on the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In Kuwait, the demand for optical cables is expected to surge as the mid- to long-term national development plan, "New Kuwait 2035," is actively implemented.
Daehan Electric Wire plans not only to secure the Kuwaiti optical cable market but also to expand into neighboring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The company intends to leverage its network, which has supplied cables throughout the Middle East for over 50 years.
Zaid Al-Najem, Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry of Kuwait, stated, "The localization of optical communication cable products will enable Kuwait’s information and communication industry to develop more rapidly," adding, "Daehan Kuwait will play an important role as a production base for optical communication cables in Kuwait and GCC countries."
Vice Chairman Song said, "Daehan Kuwait will expand its market dominance by supplying top-quality optical communication cables," and added, "With the establishment of production infrastructure in Kuwait following the Dangjin cable factory, Daehan Electric Wire is now able to actively respond to the growing global demand for optical communication cables."
After the completion ceremony of the Daehan Kuwait factory, Vice Chairman Song and other Daehan Electric Wire executives plan to travel to Saudi Arabia to review issues in the Middle Eastern market. They will inspect the production site of Saudi Daehan, the only high voltage (HV) power equipment manufacturing corporation in Saudi Arabia, and discuss future business expansion strategies with their partner, the Mohamed Al-Ojaimi Group.
