Online Support Signature Campaign Also Launched...Anyone Can Participate
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 10th that it will hold a citizen briefing session to attract a science high school on the 12th from 2 PM to 4 PM at Onnuri on the first floor of City Hall.
The briefing session is expected to be attended by about 500 interested parents and general citizens. It is organized to share the progress of the integrated working-level council for attracting a science high school, which is operated jointly by Seongnam City and the Seongnam Office of Education, and to address related questions.
The possibility of converting Bundang Jungang High School (Jeongja-dong, Bundang-gu), a general high school, into a science high school will also be explained.
At the briefing session, the city will listen to citizens' opinions and, once the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education announces the additional designation call for science high schools, plans to submit application documents in cooperation with the Seongnam Office of Education according to the schedule.
The city will also conduct an "online support signature campaign for attracting a science high school to Seongnam" until the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education makes the final selection of the science high school.
Any citizen who supports attracting the science high school can participate by submitting a support signature through scanning the QR code (on the city’s homepage).
Shin Sang-jin, Mayor of Seongnam, said, “Seongnam boasts the ideal environment for a science high school with well-established advanced industrial infrastructure such as Pangyo 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Techno Valleys, High Tech Valley, and Yatap Valley, which are the centers of South Korea’s IT industry, and a strong passion for education. We will actively promote the attraction of a science high school in the region for nurturing future science and technology talents and advancing South Korea’s science and technology in STEM fields.”
