YouTuber Who Found Black Pearl in Pen Shell Says "Feels Like Winning the Lotto"

Discovered While Preparing Pen Shells for Ingredients

A seafood-specialized YouTuber with 1.3 million subscribers discovered a black pearl while preparing pen shells as ingredients, drawing attention to its appraisal value.

Recently, YouTuber Subingsu (real name Jo Subin) uploaded a video titled "Did a real gemstone black pearl come out?" on her YouTube channel. The video shows Subingsu preparing dinner with her mother and younger brother during a visit to Haenam, Jeollanam-do, where her father moved to the countryside. She prepared a dish called "pen shell samhap," grilling pen shells, beef, and mushrooms, and began cleaning 10 pen shells.

While demonstrating how to clean the pen shells, Subingsu said, "Wow, the innards look really delicious," holding up a pen shell to the camera, then suddenly exclaimed, "Wait, oh my!" She then showed the pearl inside the pen shell, saying, "Wow, isn't this a pearl? This is amazing." She shouted, "Mom!" and ran to her mother holding the pen shell, showing her excitement. Subingsu said, "I feel like I won the lottery," adding, "I should sell the black pearl and buy some land in Haenam."

Later, on the 8th, Subingsu posted on her YouTube channel community, "As soon as I returned to Seoul from Haenam, I went straight to the appraisal center," and revealed the pearl appraisal certificate. The certificate showed that the pearl measured 4.5 mm in width, 4.4 mm in length, 4.6 mm in height, and weighed 0.64 carats, confirming it as a "natural pearl." Regarding the appraisal value, which many subscribers were curious about, Subingsu announced, "The black pearl appraisal video will be uploaded on the 10th."

Netizens who heard the news responded with comments such as, "This is so amazing. It really was a pearl," "It's not about the money, it's an incredible stroke of luck," "I feel like the appraisal fee might be more expensive," "I don't think it's something rare," and "It feels even more precious and meaningful because it came out while the whole family was gathered preparing a delicious meal."

Meanwhile, Subingsu is popular for her content where she personally cleans and cooks unique and diverse seafood such as giant octopuses that look like monsters, whole tunas weighing up to 150 kg, and golden-colored flatfish.
