Yoo Dong-ho, CEO of Netcube Co., Ltd., a leading company in mobility management solutions for enterprise networking, gave a presentation titled "5G Private Network Security Threats and Countermeasures" at the PNT Summit 2024 held on September 6 at KINTEX Exhibition Hall 1. This 5G private network conference was held as a side event of the 1st Private Network Technology Industry Exhibition 'PNT Fair 2024,' aiming to introduce various aspects of 5G private network construction technologies, equipment, and references, and to share the latest trends with industry peers.
Netcube develops network authentication, IP mobility, and autonomous operation authentication solutions for smart work, smart factories, and public infrastructure, and is recognized for its expertise in 5G private network utilization and security technologies based on network slicing.
In his conference presentation, CEO Yoo shared background knowledge on 5G and 5G private network technologies and explained various security vulnerabilities and potential attacks threatening 5G private networks. He then introduced security measures that need to be newly considered separately from existing IT and OT security to overcome these challenges that threaten the communication network itself, which are difficult to resolve with traditional security technologies.
CEO Yoo stated, “5G private networks are technologies provided to allow enterprises to privately adopt 5G, which was originally developed for mobile communication services, and are merely scaled-down versions of the nationwide networks operated by mobile carriers. Therefore, there are limitations in controlling all threats through existing enterprise wired and wireless network security solutions. In particular, the establishment and operation of security systems optimized for 5G private network environments, such as IoT devices, 5G private network cores, and O-RAN base stations, must be considered.”

Meanwhile, 5G private networks enable the operation of network slicing, a fundamental feature of 5G, allowing the separation of internet and enterprise networks for each slice and the application of unique authentication policies. Through its self-developed network slicing platform, the NSure solution, Netcube can apply unique policies by application or group when expanding 5G private networks to smart factories, smart cities, etc., thereby enhancing security resilience.
Additionally, Netcube recently acquired domestic sales rights from CTOne, a global communication security company headquartered in Taiwan, and is supplying a mobile network security (MNS) solution to the domestic 5G private network market that provides endpoint protection and visibility and protection for the entire private network through USIM alone, without installing agent software on devices.
