Lee Jae-myung: "The Bipartisan Legislative Council Should Begin Open Discussions"

Yeo Han Dong Hoon "No Preconditions Allowed"
Both Ruling and Opposition Parties Emphasize "Medical Sector Must Attend"

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "The Yeoya-Uijeong (ruling party, opposition party, medical community, government) consultative body should focus on doctors returning to hospitals as soon as possible," and added, "The government must frankly acknowledge the problems and start open discussions."

At the Democratic Party's Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 9th, Lee claimed, "Despite causing a situation that endangers the lives of the people due to the failure of medical reform policies, the government continues to take reckless measures." He continued, "Problems can be solved through flexible dialogue and mutual concessions," emphasizing, "There is almost no possibility of resolving the issue through aggressive tactics." He also pointed out, "The government has only shifted responsibility to the Yeoya-Uijeong consultative body without any stance on how to address the issue."

He stated, "It is necessary to recognize that communication and compromise are inevitable," and warned, "Endangering the lives of the people through further chicken games will not be tolerated." Furthermore, he said, "The Democratic Party will do its best to make the Yeoya-Uijeong consultative body a starting point for resolving the medical crisis," and requested, "The government and ruling party should approach this with the mindset of protecting the lives of the people rather than pride." On the same day, Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, also expressed hope that "the consultative body will become one where grand cooperation and resolution can be achieved."

The Democratic Party emphasized that a consultative body without the participation of the medical community is meaningless, stating, "It is most important for the medical community to sit at the negotiation table." Chief spokesperson Cho Seung-rae said, "If the medical community does not come to the negotiation table, how is it different from a National Assembly standing committee where ministers attend?" and added, "I believe it is the government's ability to bring the medical community to the table." He also said, "The format, such as how many people attend, is not important," and "The core is that the negotiation table is formed."
