Daejeon City announced that on the 11th, it will hold an international seminar in collaboration with National Assembly member Yoon Jaeok (Daegu Dalseogu-eul) of the People Power Party at the 1st Small Conference Room of the National Assembly Members' Office Building, under the theme of "Plans for Introducing New Transportation Systems to Enhance Urban Transportation Efficiency."
The seminar will bring together experts representing the transportation sector from the government, National Assembly, local governments, and specialized transportation institutions to discuss Daejeon City's pilot project for introducing a new transportation system (trackless articulated vehicle system), the first of its kind in Korea.
Graham Currie, a world-renowned public transportation expert and professor at Monash University in Australia, will present on how trackless articulated vehicles have similar transport capacity to light rail, but can be constructed in a shorter period and at much lower cost, which is why their adoption is being promoted worldwide.
Lee Jun, head of the Railway Policy Research Division at the Korea Railroad Research Institute, will explain the feasibility study results for the new transportation system based on the Daejeon Line 3 plan (Shintanjin to Sannae, 28.1 km).
Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, "This seminar is part of our efforts to promote a comprehensive public transportation activation policy, including the introduction of a new transportation system that is more convenient than railways and more comfortable than buses," adding, "Through the nation’s first pilot project for a new transportation system and the construction of the hydrogen tram for Metro Line 2, we will usher in a second leap forward for Daejeon as a transportation city."
