Enjoy 'Yeongdeungpo Soopteoring' at Saetgang Waterfront Space on September 10th at 6 PM
Forest exploration using map and compass... Unique forest experience for the whole family
First 30 families with elementary students interested in outdoor activities accepted until September 9th
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will hold the ‘Yeongdeungpo Sooptearing’ competition on September 10th at the Saetgang waterfront area, where participants can enjoy forest exploration using maps and compasses.
‘Sooptearing’ is a sport derived from the navigation training methods of military officers, where participants use maps and compasses to pass through designated points in nature such as mountains, forests, and parks, completing the course to the destination.
This Sooptearing event will take place at Saetgang Ecological Park located in Yeouido. The district prepared this competition by utilizing the waterfront space near Saetgang, offering a unique charm that can only be enjoyed in Yeongdeungpo-gu, which has no mountains.
Additionally, by adding a stamp tour mission to the competition, it provides a novel experience not felt in the city and stimulates the adventurous spirit of the participants.
The participants are 30 local families with elementary school children, recruited on a first-come, first-served basis until 12 PM on September 9th. The participating students must be elementary school age or older, and at least one guardian must accompany them. Residents wishing to apply can do so for free through the district office website or the district’s SNS.
The exploration will be held from 6 PM to 9:30 PM on September 10th. Participants should prepare long sleeves, long pants, sneakers, hats, etc. The most important items for this exploration?maps, compasses, and lanterns?will be provided free of charge by the district, and mosquito repellent will also be available. For the safety of participants, detailed guidance on the course will be given through theoretical education before departure, and 15 forest interpreters will accompany the exploration.
In addition to the forest exploration, the district has prepared various events to celebrate Chuseok, Korea’s largest traditional holiday, including ▲ Hangawi traditional games enjoyed in the forest ▲ and a wish lantern lighting ceremony, offering unforgettable memories to participating families.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “This exploration is a great opportunity to feel nature with your whole body and observe the natural ecosystem with your family,” adding, “We will continue to develop natural experience programs utilizing various waterfront spaces such as Anyangcheon and Dorimcheon to provide residents with unique experiences that can only be felt in Yeongdeungpo.”
