"If You Are Too Strict About Reporting, XXX Will Tear"… Apology Letter from Father of Child Who Had an Accident at Kids Cafe Sparks Controversy

Child's father threatens complainant in apology letter after urinating on pants at apartment complex kids cafe

A controversy has arisen over an apology letter written by a father whose child accidentally urinated on their pants at a kids' cafe within an apartment complex, as the letter contained threatening language aimed at the person who reported the incident.

On the 7th, a post titled "Apology Letter from a Parent at the Apartment Kids' Cafe" was uploaded to various online communities. The author, Mr. A, explained that his child recently made a mistake by urinating on their pants at the kids' cafe inside the apartment complex. A resident who witnessed this reported the incident to the management office, and subsequently, the Residents' Representative Meeting (RRM) demanded cleaning fees from Mr. A.

Mr. A then expressed his position through an apology letter. He began by saying, "I am the father of the child who urinated on their pants at the kids' cafe recently. I apologize to the residents who use the kids' cafe," and added, "I am sorry for the inconvenience caused by the closure of the kids' cafe. Also, I would like to explain why I am only posting this apology now."

He continued, "After the initial post about the kids' cafe urination appeared on the bulletin board, many complaints were filed with the management office and the Residents' Representative Meeting (RRM). The next day, I received a call from the management office and informed them it was my child. On the same day, I received a text from the RRM demanding compensation of 450,000 won for cleaning due to the child's urination," explaining the situation. Shocked by the large compensation demand, Mr. A submitted an objection letter. Later, at the RRM meeting on the 4th, it was concluded that Mr. A must either pay the cleaning fee or clean the area himself.

Mr. A stated, "The reason I submitted the objection letter was that I was angry about being told to pay the cleaning fee unilaterally based solely on the word of the woman who reported it, without hearing any explanation from me." He added, "Regardless of whether my child dripped a drop of urine or urinated all over, I promise to thoroughly clean and disinfect the kids' cafe and conclude this apology letter." At the end, he wrote, "Lastly, to the person who posted on the bulletin board, I want to show you a line from the movie 'Tazza.' 'Ajumma, if you have a strong spirit for reporting, your mouth will be torn like Lee Seung-bok.' That's all," closing his letter with this statement.

Netizens who read the post mostly criticized Mr. A due to the threatening tone of the final sentence, although some acknowledged that he might feel wronged. Comments included, "It’s called an apology letter but reads like a threat," "I’m neutral but the threat crossed the line," "The child urinated and left without a word... the audacity is too much," "It’s frustrating to be told to pay without any explanation, but the last phrase makes me think the reporter is definitely a troublemaker," and "Threatening the reporter reveals his character." However, some netizens also responded, "Threatening is unacceptable, but I also wonder if charging 450,000 won for cleaning because a child urinated on their pants is appropriate."
