Police Arrest Two for Climbing Yi Sun-sin Statue to Protest Korea-Japan Summit Democratic Labor Union and Others Hold 'Rally Condemning Korea-Japan Summit'

Democratic Labor Union members who staged a surprise protest by climbing the statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin during an anti-Korea-Japan summit rally were arrested by the police.


According to the police on the 6th, the Jongno Police Station in Seoul arrested two Democratic Labor Union members at around 7 p.m. at Gwanghwamun Square in Jongno-gu on charges of violating the Assembly and Demonstration Act.


They are accused of leaving the designated rally area and staging a surprise protest by climbing the statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin.


The Democratic Labor Union and civic groups such as the Korea-Japan History Justice and Peace Action held rallies from the morning near the Yongsan Presidential Office and other locations to oppose Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's visit to Korea and the Korea-Japan summit.
