Changwon Mayor Hong Nam-pyo: "I Will Do My Best to Help Merchants Overcome Worries and Return to Their Livelihoods"
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is mobilizing all administrative resources for the emergency restoration of the fire-damaged Masan Fish Market Produce Market, so that merchants can overcome their hardship and resume business before Chuseok.
About 50 people, including Changwon Mayor Hong Nampyo, public officials, and local organization members, participated in urgent recovery work such as environmental cleanup.
Merchants at the Masan Fish Market Produce Market, who suffered fire damage just before the Chuseok holiday season, have requested the provision of temporary sales spaces and improvements to the surrounding environment so they can operate temporarily before the holiday.
In response, the city held an emergency countermeasure meeting on the 5th to prepare temporary business spaces for affected merchants and restore the damaged area. They decided to open temporary sales spaces before Chuseok so that merchants can quickly return to their livelihoods, and began emergency restoration at the fire site.
On this day, more than 50 people, including Changwon Mayor Hong Nam-pyo, city officials, and local organization members, participated in the emergency restoration work, which included environmental cleanup. Two excavators and cleaning vehicles were deployed to remove debris and waste left at the fire site, and disinfection was carried out to prevent infectious diseases among merchants and customers, as part of the recovery efforts.
Additionally, the city plans to continue various support measures, such as encouraging local companies to participate in social contribution activities in cooperation with the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and promoting the use of the Masan Fish Market Produce Market by employees, public institutions, and various organizations.
Mayor Hong said, "We will do our utmost to turn this crisis into an opportunity and help the merchants overcome their concerns and return to their livelihoods."
