Continued with LIG Sponsorship Since 2009
The 'LIG 2024 National Disabled Football Championship,' the only nationwide football festival for people with disabilities, kicked off on the 6th in Namhae, Gyeongsangnam-do, and began its three-day schedule.
This tournament, held at Namhae Sports Park, is organized by the Korea Disabled Football Association, the Gyeongsangnam-do Disabled Football Association, and the Namhae-gun Disabled Sports Association, with support from LIG, Lotte Scholarship Foundation, Korea Paralympic Committee, Gyeongsangnam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do Disabled Sports Association, and Namhae-gun, among others.
The LIG National Disabled Football Championship has been held since 2009 as a football festival to promote harmony with local residents, raise awareness about disabilities, and foster understanding of disabled football. This year, 15 teams from across the country, with over 220 participants, are competing. The tournament features four teams in the visually impaired (totally blind) category, four in the cerebral palsy category, four in the intellectual disability category, and three in the hearing impairment category, all vying fiercely for victory.
On the 6th, the LIG 2024 National Disabled Football Championship kicked off at Namhae Sports Park in Gyeongnam, with attendees participating in the ceremonial kickoff.
LIG, which has continued this event for 15 years, once again donated 150 million KRW for the 'Disabled Football Development Fund' together with KB Insurance in April, in celebration of Disabled Persons Day. Since the establishment of the Korea Disabled Football Association, the total development fund delivered by major affiliates such as LIG Nex1, LIG System, and Hyuseco, along with their employees, has reached 1.7 billion KRW as of this year.
In his congratulatory speech, LIG Vice Chairman Koo Bonyeop said, "The long journey that LIG and the disabled football community have taken together has not been a simple cooperative alliance, but a time of overcoming disabilities, challenging limits, and practicing the true spirit of sports."
Kim Kyujin, President of the Korea Disabled Football Association, said, "Thanks to the support of LIG and many others, disabled football is developing day by day," and added, "As this tournament also serves to discover national team athletes, it will be a great help in nurturing athletes for the visually impaired category at the Paralympics scheduled to be held in Los Angeles, USA, in 2028."
