A 60-Year-Old Zelkova Tree in the Lobby... GS Construction Renovates with 'Zai Mok'

Installation of Sculptures Using 60-Year-Old Discarded Wood
Transformed into Employee Rest Area

GS Construction announced on the 6th that it has installed a sculpture called 'Jaimok(木)' made from a 60-year-old zelkova tree in the lobby of its headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and renovated the space as a resting area for employees. The lobby space had usually been used as an exhibition area.

The tree relocated to the headquarters is a 60-year-old zelkova tree that was originally in Mohyeon-eup, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do. It was planted by a grandmother who settled in the neighborhood after getting married, but was about to be discarded due to road construction in the area. GS Construction, which was preparing to renovate the lobby, happened to learn about this and moved the tree, which was at risk of being discarded, to the headquarters building for display.

Heo Yunhong, CEO of GS Construction, said through the company bulletin board, "Just as one takes a short rest under the shade of a tree when tired from work, we wanted to create a bright and comfortable resting space where our employees can take a brief break while passing by," adding, "I hope our company will always be a bright and lively place like Jaimok."

Earlier, in April, GS Construction opened a 'Sky Garden' on the rooftop of its building to provide a resting space for employees. This summer, 'Ice Cream Day' events were held on the first and second hottest days of the season (Chobok and Jungbok), receiving positive responses.
