The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea released about 260 trash balloons toward the south from the night of the 5th to the early morning of the 6th, and so far, about 140 falling objects have been confirmed in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas.
The contents of the balloons were trash such as paper and plastic bottles, and there were no substances harmful to safety. The falling object bags attached to the balloons contained several bundles, and when they burst in the air, they separated into multiple small bags, so the number of falling objects does not necessarily match the number of balloons.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff stated, "The specific locations where the balloons fell cannot be disclosed due to operational security." Since the end of May until the day before, North Korea has sent trash balloons to the south 14 times in response to leaflets sent by South Korean civilian groups toward the North.
