Gyeonggi Province will hold the '2024 Assistive Device Aftercare Specialist (Wheel-Master) Skills Competition for People with Developmental Disabilities' on the 11th at the Uijeongbu Seongam Culture and Sports Vision Center.
Assistive device aftercare refers to the disassembly, cleaning, and sterilization management of mobility assistive devices centered on wheelchairs and hospital assistive devices such as IV stands.
Held for the second time this year following last year, this skills competition is the only one held as a single event exclusively for people with developmental disabilities.
The competition is organized to enhance the job performance satisfaction of people with developmental disabilities and to promote the job of assistive device management. Twelve developmental disability assistive device managers who have passed the preliminary round will compete in the finals.
Eligibility to participate requires that the individual be registered with an intellectual disability or autism spectrum disorder, hold a private Wheel-Master certification, or have at least six months of work experience as a Wheel-Master.
Kim Hana, Director of Welfare at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Assistive device management is a job that can relatively easily expand into private sectors such as large hospitals," adding, "We will do our best to help people with developmental disabilities, who are vulnerable to employment, to continuously work in private medical institutions."
