On the 5th (local time), US economic media CNBC reported that Samsung is collaborating with semiconductor companies Qualcomm and Google to develop smart glasses.
According to the report, Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, stated that Qualcomm's semiconductor developers are working with Samsung and Google to develop mixed reality (MR) smart glasses that sync with smartphones. CEO Amon said, "The goal of the collaboration is to enable everyone with a smartphone to have smart glasses that can be used together with it."
Smart glasses refer to glasses that provide users with various digital content. The three companies agreed in February last year to build an extended reality (XR) ecosystem through collaboration. Since then, Qualcomm unveiled the 'Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform' earlier this year, which enables mixed reality and virtual reality experiences.
The specific direction of the collaboration on smart glasses is still under discussion. However, since Apple's smart glasses 'Vision Pro,' released earlier this year, failed to gain much public approval due to reasons such as covering almost the entire front of the face, it is predicted that the new smart glasses from the three companies will be made in the form of regular glasses or sunglasses.
