Acting Chairman Kim diagnosed, "However, as its role is significant, various illegal information and false manipulated information such as deepfake sexual crime materials and drugs are evolving and spreading rapidly online, causing harm to victims," and added, "There are ongoing criticisms that portals, by acting as gatekeepers beyond news, distort public opinion formation and the media market."

In response, he urged taking bold and proactive self-regulation with a sense of public responsibility in line with global trends. He explained that the European Union (EU) is enforcing the Digital Services Act to prevent the distribution of illegal information and ensure system transparency, and that the United Kingdom is also strengthening platform operators' self-regulation and accountability through the Online Safety Act.

Acting Chairman Kim requested, "Please take the lead in improving the methods of information provision and recommendation services to fully perform the portal's original role as an information mediator and to create a diverse and balanced public opinion formation and a healthy ecosystem in our society."

In response, Yubong-seok, Naver's Head of Policy and RM, said, "Naver's services are sometimes misunderstood unintentionally, and many unexpected issues occur," and added, "We will strive to improve misunderstandings and insufficient understanding about us."
