Civil groups in Daejeon have called for the resignation of Daejeon Daedeok District Council members, holding them accountable for the council's failure to form its leadership.
On the morning of the 5th, the Daejeon Participation and Autonomy Citizens’ Coalition held a press conference in front of the Daedeok District Council, stating, "It has now been 44 days since the council failed to form its leadership for the second half of the term," and pointed out, "Two years ago, the Daedeok District Council also experienced a failure in forming its leadership for the first half, and they are repeating the same mistakes."
The group continued, "During the past two-year term, the monthly councilor allowance was drastically increased to 800,000 won, and the monthly activity allowance to 400,000 won. We question whether the councilors have truly performed their duties in accordance with these increased allowances," adding, "Daedeok District Council members should disclose the details of their activity expenses over the past 44 days to prove what roles they have fulfilled as councilors. If they have failed to fulfill their roles, they must return all unjustly received allowances and activity expenses."
They further emphasized, "The Daejeon branches of both the People Power Party and the Democratic Party of Korea cannot be free from responsibility for this situation. If their party members fail to fulfill their responsibilities as councilors, the parties must hold them accountable and impose disciplinary measures. If communication is necessary, they must create opportunities for dialogue."
