A walking festival will take place in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province, where participants can share the breath and sorrows of Danjong, the symbol of Yeongwol, and enjoy Yeongwol’s pristine nature.

The Yeongwol County Festival Citizen Planning Group announced on the 6th that on the 12th of next month, they will hold the "Yeongwol愛in Green Walking Festival - A Green Walking Festival to Save Myself, Us, and the Earth" at the outdoor plaza in front of the Yeongwol-eup Sports Park Indoor Gymnasium and the area around Danjong cultural assets.

Anyone, including tourists visiting Yeongwol, walking enthusiasts nationwide, and families, can participate in the walking festival. The planning group expects about 600 participants, including Yeongwol residents and tourists, to join this walking festival where they can share the breath of Danjong, the symbol of Yeongwol, and enjoy Yeongwol’s pristine nature.

By holding the "Green Walking" event to protect and save the health of myself, us, and the Earth in Yeongwol, which preserves its natural green environment, the planning group aims to establish a model case of citizen participation activities for "carbon-neutral green growth," which is attracting global attention. They also intend to enhance Yeongwol’s image, contribute to the development of the tourism industry, and revitalize the local economy.

The festival consists of ▲Yeongwol愛in Green Walking Festival ▲Photo Contest ▲Green Walking Festival ▲Nighttime Cultural Event Viewing. For participation inquiries, contact the Yeongwol County Culture and Tourism Department or the Yeongwol Cultural Foundation.

The Yeongwol愛in Green Walking Festival is a walking competition along a course featuring cultural heritage sites filled with Danjong’s sorrows and Yeongwol’s pristine natural scenery. The course starts at the outdoor plaza in front of the Yeongwol-eup Sports Park Indoor Gymnasium and follows this route: Geumgangjeong → Gwanpungheon → Jangneung → Cheongnyeongpo → Untan Godo → Cheongnyeongpo Station → back to the plaza in front of the Sports Park Indoor Gymnasium, covering approximately 20 km (estimated to take 4 hours).

The planning group considers the 20 km distance too long and potentially burdensome for the elderly and children, so they plan to create separate 5 km and 10 km courses before the festival begins.

Participants can take photos to capture memories while walking the Green Walking course and upload them to social networking services (SNS) designated by the organizers. Outstanding works will be judged, awarded, and immediately exhibited at the event site in a photo contest. After finishing the walk, a full-fledged festival will be held until 9 p.m., where participants can enjoy Yeongwol’s food by sharing chicken and draft beer around the event area.

From 10 p.m., a music party will start at the car camping site in Yeongwol-eup. To accommodate residents who dislike noise, participants will enjoy music using wireless headphones. The "Silent Music Party," where people can feel nature in Yeongwol’s pristine environment and enjoy music according to their tastes, will continue until midnight.

Kang Myeong-ho, chairman of the Yeongwol Cultural Tourism Foundation’s Citizen Festival Committee, said, "The walking festival course includes places related to Danjong, and there will be spots that even Yeongwol residents are walking for the first time. Yeongwol and Danjong are inseparable. This walking festival has unique symbols and meanings different from other local festivals. It will be a festival that all residents participate in together," expressing his expectations.
