Korea Forest Service Publishes Photo Book on Korea-China Desertification Prevention Afforestation Project

The National Institute of Forest Science announced on the 5th that it has published the English version of the "Korea-China Desertification Prevention Afforestation Project Photo Album (2022)," which captures the achievements of the afforestation project in five desertification areas in western China (2000?2005) through photographs.

The photo album is a collection of results obtained through joint research by the National Institute of Forest Science and the Chinese Academy of Forestry. It mainly contains early photos of the afforestation project in the five desertification areas, photos from field surveys conducted between 2017 and 2018, and photos showing the results after afforestation.

Since 2017, the National Institute of Forest Science has been conducting international joint research on desertification prevention with the Chinese Academy of Forestry. The joint research process was introduced as an excellent case of forest cooperation in the "Second Global Land Outlook Report" published by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in 2022.

The Korean and English versions of the photo album will be distributed to the National Library of Korea, the National Assembly Library, university libraries, and other institutions. The photo album can also be viewed on the website of the National Institute of Forest Science Library.

Choi Hyung-tae, head of the Forest Ecology Research Division, said, "The photo album is a result organized mainly around field photos to help anyone easily understand Korea's efforts to prevent desertification and the achievements of overseas forest restoration afforestation projects. We expect that the newly published English photo album will serve as an opportunity to widely promote the achievements of Korea's representative forest cooperation projects to the world."
