In Daegu, a woman in her 70s was spotted walking around the streets wielding a weapon during the morning rush hour and was subdued by personnel at the local government’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) integrated control center, after which the police took her into custody.

According to Nam-gu District in Daegu on the 4th, at 8:21 a.m. on the 2nd, a control center operator monitoring safety CCTV captured footage of a woman in her 70s swinging a knife in the air while roaming the residential area. The operator immediately reported the incident to 112, and responding police officers subdued the woman, confiscated the knife, and arrested her. The operator’s quick report prevented what could have turned into a major incident.

The control center had also helped apprehend a man in his 20s who was caught engaging in public indecency on the street on the 30th of last month. Additionally, in April, the center received a commendation from the chief of the Southern Police Station for reporting a thief. This year alone, the center has detected 12 crime scenes including thefts and handed them over to the police, leading to arrests. It has also responded to and prevented 132 incidents such as youth assaults and provided 1,180 CCTV video clips to police stations to help resolve cases, playing a vital role in ensuring the safety of district residents.
