The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 5th that, as a result of reviewing the interim performance of the 'Indian SW Personnel Recruitment Linkage' conducted for the first time this year, a total of 30 companies have hired 103 Indian developers.

In February, the Ministry held three recruitment briefings in New Delhi, India, to recruit Indian SW developers who wish to work in Korea. Approximately 1,000 people participated in the briefings. The Korea Venture Business Association, the project’s organizing institution, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Alumni Foundation. Since February, recruitment of hiring companies has been ongoing monthly, with 324 companies applying by last month. Among them, final hiring was conducted through 395 interviews with 91 companies.

The most notable feature is that out of the 103 hires, 98 are remote hires performing projects locally in India without coming to Korea. Since visa issuance is not required, rapid linkage to companies urgently needing SW personnel was possible. There are also companies wishing for Indian developers to work in Korea, and five are currently undergoing visa issuance procedures.

Indian developers are mainly participating in SW development and are being hired in various fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) development, mobile development, frontend development, and backend development.

The CEO of venture company M, who participated in this project and remotely hired three people last month, said, “Hiring overseas SW developers has always been a burden for SMEs and venture companies, and since it was our first time, we hesitated. Thanks to this project, we were able to take on the challenge and are very satisfied.” He added, “As we are preparing to launch overseas services, it is also very helpful in learning global perspectives and sensibilities, so we plan to hire more.”

Kim Bong-deok, Director of Venture Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, “For companies interested in hiring overseas developers, we plan to produce and distribute a manual addressing the difficulties and questions companies have encountered while promoting the project.” He added, “We will continue to explore ways to utilize foreign students studying in Korea to help resolve the SW personnel shortage of SMEs and venture companies and support their global expansion.”
