PGA Tour and LIV Golf Top Stars Face Off
Special Event to Be Held in Las Vegas This December
A ‘big match’ has been arranged.
Top stars from the U.S. professional golf (PGA) Tour and LIV Golf will face off in a battle of pride. Representing the PGA Tour are world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA) and No. 3 Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), while LIV Golf is represented by ‘major hunter’ Brooks Koepka and ‘Hulk’ Bryson DeChambeau (both USA).
On the 4th (local time), U.S. golf media Golfweek reported, "This match was planned for TV broadcast. It is scheduled to take place in mid-December in Las Vegas. It will be broadcast on TNT." TNT is a channel owned by Warner Bros. and Discovery. It has previously broadcast nine editions of The Match series, including Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson. McIlroy said, "I’m happy to be Scottie’s partner in this exciting duel," and explained, "This match is an event designed to energize golf fans."
The four players participating in this event will receive appearance fees. However, there is no prize money. The PGA Tour, which has been discussing a merger with the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund that has been sponsoring LIV Golf since last year, refrained from commenting on this match. Jay Monahan, PGA Tour commissioner, stated, "Discussions about a merger with LIV Golf are ongoing. I cannot disclose further details."
