The Perfect Season for Reading in Autumn!... Songpa Book Museum to Host Book Culture Festival on the 7th

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will hold a 'Book Culture Festival' at the Songpa Book Museum on September 7th to celebrate the season of reading.

Opened in 2019, the Songpa Book Museum is Korea's first public book museum established with the theme of books, offering diverse and distinctive exhibitions, lectures, and educational programs.

In particular, this year the district planned the 'Book Culture Festival' to stimulate children's interest in books and to spread the book culture in Songpa-gu. Under the theme of ‘Autumn Trip with Books,’ various book-related events such as ▲Meeting with Authors ▲Children’s Reading Golden Bell ▲Small Library Experience Programs have been prepared.

First, the ▲‘Ribo and Anne’ author Yoon Jeong Eo’s book talk will be held from 2 p.m. at the Eoullim Hall on the first floor of the Songpa Book Museum. ‘Ribo and Anne’ is the grand prize-winning work of the 23rd Munhakdongne Children’s Literature Award, a fairy tale about the ‘connection’ and ‘friendship’ between two robots left in a closed library and a child who worries about and misses them. Author Yoon Jeong Eo will talk about the messages and meanings in the work during the book talk.

Also, from 3:30 p.m., the highlight of the Book Culture Festival, the ‘Children’s Reading Golden Bell’ competition, will take place. Targeting 50 upper-grade elementary school students in Songpa-gu, librarians from local elementary schools select five books in the fields of literature, environment, history, mathematics, and economics to create questions. The last three students who answer the most questions correctly will receive commendations from the director of the Songpa Book Museum.

From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the same day, a small library experience program will be operated at the Kids Studio of the Songpa Book Museum. Activities include ‘Making Bookmarks,’ ‘Brain Creative Play for Growing Thoughts,’ ‘Storytelling and Making Bread Bags,’ ‘Mask Making,’ and ‘Coloring Play.’

In addition, special programs to enjoy the reading culture have been prepared. These include coloring experiences and postcard making through the ‘Songpa Book Museum Exhibition Linked Program,’ educational programs such as ‘Exciting Surprise! Quiz Cart’ involving quizzes related to the Songpa Book Museum, and the ‘Photo Zone with Books at Songpa Book Museum.’ Participants in satisfaction surveys for each event will receive small souvenirs on a first-come, first-served basis.

Residents wishing to participate in the book talk and the Reading Golden Bell can register in advance on the Songpa Book Museum website. Experience programs such as the small library program are open to anyone who registers on-site on the day of the event.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “We have prepared a festival where you can experience various reading cultures to welcome the autumn, a good season for reading books. I recommend many people come and enjoy a pleasant reading experience,” and added, “We will continue to expand opportunities for cultural enjoyment in various fields for our residents.”
