Yeosu City to Provide Disaster Relief Funds to Fisheries Affected by High Water Temperatures Before Chuseok

Priority Payment of 2 Billion Won to 72 Fish Farms

Promoting Management Stability and Rapid Damage Recovery

Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 5th that it will provide disaster relief funds to fish farms that suffered losses due to high water temperatures before the Chuseok holiday.

The recipients of this disaster relief fund are 72 fish farms for which the first damage survey has been completed. The city plans to prioritize support with 2 billion KRW of national funds to stabilize fish farm management and promote rapid recovery.

In addition, fish farms with severe damage and urgent need for recovery funds will receive support through interest reductions on fisheries policy fund loans and low-interest financing.

As of August, Yeosu City has received reports of fish mortality amounting to 3,676,000 spotted sea bass, with damages totaling 7.327 billion KRW. The city has organized a damage investigation team to conduct surveys for recovery support.

Accordingly, the city plans to promptly complete surveys for fish farms whose damage assessments have not yet been finalized and provide disaster relief funds.

A Yeosu City official stated, “We decided to provide disaster relief funds before the holiday to offer practical help to fishermen,” adding, “We will carefully ensure that additional damage reports are not excluded from the support fund recipients.”

Meanwhile, a high water temperature warning has been in effect in the Yeosu sea area since July 31. Last year, 214 fish farms in Yeosu were affected by high water temperatures, with damages amounting to 14.5 billion KRW.
