Incheon City has successfully secured the hosting rights for the 29th World Korean Business Convention next year.
The World Korean Business Convention is the largest economic event for overseas Koreans, where about 3,000 Korean businesspeople from various countries gather to share diverse business information and strengthen networking. The event is organized by the World-OKTA (World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Associations) and supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It has been held annually every October since 1996, alternating between domestic and overseas locations every other year.
World-OKTA, established in 1981, is a Korean business organization aiming to promote the economic development of the homeland, enhance trade, and realize an economic community of the Korean people. Currently, it has 148 chapters in 70 countries worldwide, with about 7,000 regular members and 28,000 next-generation members.
Incheon City received high marks during the on-site inspection last month following its bid application, due to its excellent international accessibility, diverse industries and infrastructure, international business environment, and extensive event experience, leading to its selection as the optimal location for next year’s convention.
The next World Korean Business Convention is expected to consist of various sessions, business matching, exhibitions, economic forums and conferences, and cultural events. Through this, the city expects to support domestic companies’ overseas expansion, enhance Incheon’s brand value, and contribute to revitalizing the tourism industry and regional economic growth.
The city is particularly determined to successfully host the convention and firmly establish its position as a global economic hub. To this end, it plans to implement various support measures aimed at strengthening global competitiveness through networks with Korean businesspeople worldwide and will continue to expand cooperation with related government agencies, private organizations, and companies.
Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok said, "Next year’s World Korean Business Convention will provide an opportunity for Korean businesspeople from various countries to get to know Incheon more closely and further promote Incheon’s development and global economic cooperation. We will do our best to prepare for a successful event."
Meanwhile, the 28th World Korean Business Convention will be held from the 29th to the 31st of next month in Vienna, Austria. At this event, Incheon City’s investment promotion pavilion and exhibition booths for 30 outstanding companies in the food and consumer goods sectors from the Incheon area will also be operated.
