Cheongsong County Holds 'Shimcheon Choi Jongguk Artwork Donation Ceremony'

Goonrip Cheongsong Yasong Art Museum Donates "Juwangsan Daejeonsa" Artwork

Cheongsong County in North Gyeongsang Province held a 'Donation Ceremony for Works by Artist Choi Jongguk (Simcheon)' at the County Office's Future Leap Room on the 3rd.

Artist Choi Jongguk, known as Simcheon (深泉), who donated the Juwangsan Daejeonsa artwork to the Cheongsong County Yasong Art Museum.

Simcheon Choi Jongguk has held ten solo exhibitions, including 'Entering the Prose of Landscape Paintings' at the Haeinsa Seongbo Museum, and has actively participated in various group exhibitions such as the 'Korean Painting Grand Exhibition' at La Mer Gallery in Seoul, showcasing his vibrant artistic activities.

In 2016, he held an invitational exhibition titled 'Scenic Views Along the Nakdong River' at the Cheongsong Yasong Art Museum, and his long-standing relationship with Yasong Lee Wonjwa, a representative Korean painter from Cheongsong, continues to this day at the Cheongsong Yasong Art Museum.

The donated work, 'Juwangsan Daejeonsa (280×130cm)', is a realistic landscape painting that features Daejeonsa Temple faintly visible between Jubong and Janggunbong, centered around Jubangcheon, adding to the picturesque atmosphere. The work is notable for being created with the artist's unique Oriental painting technique, Iljajun, using concentrated ink.

Iljajun is a technique inspired by comb-patterned pottery, in which the character 'Il' (meaning 'one') is overlapped horizontally or vertically and layered multiple times.

County Governor Yoon Kyunghee said, "I imagine it must have been a very difficult decision to donate such a valuable work filled with the artist's passion and affection to Cheongsong County," and added, "We will do our best to showcase this precious work to Cheongsong residents and many tourists visiting Cheongsong, and I would like to express my deepest gratitude to artist Choi Jongguk for his donation."
