Jeon Cheong-jo Sentenced to 4 Years in Prison for Assaulting Nam Hyun-hee's Nephew

Charges Including Child Abuse and Fraud

Jeon Cheong-jo (28), who was additionally indicted on charges including fraud and child abuse after committing an investment fraud worth tens of billions of won by impersonating a third-generation chaebol heir, was sentenced to four years in prison in the first trial.

On the 4th, Judge Lee Ho-dong of the Criminal Division 3 at the Seoul Eastern District Court held the sentencing hearing for Jeon, who was charged with violating the Child Welfare Act (child abuse) and fraud, and sentenced him to four years in prison. Along with this, he was ordered to complete a 40-hour child abuse crime prevention program.

On November 10th last year, Jeon Cheong-jo appeared at the Songpa Police Station in Seoul and was transferred to the Eastern District Prosecutors' Office.

The judge explained the sentencing reasons, saying, "The crime is very serious as the defendant assaulted a young child with a golf club under the pretext of discipline and threatened the child not to report to investigative authorities. Also, the defendant is a repeat offender of similar crimes who deceived victims by pretending to be a wealthy person and acted as if he was in a relationship with them. The victims suffered double damage by using not only their own money but also loans."

Jeon was indicted last May on charges of assaulting A, a middle school nephew of Nam Hyun-hee (42), a former national fencing athlete, 16 times with the handle of a children's golf club. Jeon was also charged with intimidation for sending messages such as "I will send a bodyguard to your school to 'work on you'" because A allegedly asked Nam for pocket money.

In addition, Jeon was additionally indicted last July on charges of embezzling 125 million won from three people under the pretext of unlisted stock investment funds and extorting 233 million won from four men he met on a dating app by pretending to be a female equestrian athlete.

Earlier, the prosecution also applied charges against Jeon for defaming famous YouTuber B by impersonating B’s mentor and spreading false information.

Separately, Jeon was indicted for embezzling over 3 billion won from 27 people by pretending to be a hidden heir of a famous domestic company and was sentenced to 12 years in prison in the first trial last February.
