World Smart City Expo: 'Pohang Smart City Promotion Pavilion' Operated

Full Effort to Establish Smart City Industry Cluster Based on Public-Private-Academic Cooperation

Pohang City is operating its Smart City Promotion Pavilion at the 'World Smart City Expo 2024 (WSCE 2024),' which is being held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, for three days from the 3rd to the 5th.

Pohang City will operate the Pohang Smart City Exhibition Hall at the World Smart City Expo 2024 (WSCE 2024), held from the 3rd to the 5th at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

Notably, at this expo, Pohang City added significance by being honored with the 'City' category award at the World Smart City Expo Awards, recognizing its achievements in the development and activation of the smart city industry.

The 'World Smart City Expo' is the largest smart city event in the Asia-Pacific region, where domestic and international urban experts, companies, international organizations, and citizens share policies and technologies related to intelligent cities and discuss the visions and values of cities.

Celebrating its 7th edition this year, the event is hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Science and ICT, and Pohang City is participating for the second time following last year.

This year's expo featured a variety of programs, including exhibitions of related smart city products and services, opening ceremonies, conferences, business consultations, and networking, under the themes of Urban Air Mobility (UAM), electric autonomous driving infrastructure, and eco-friendly smart marine cities based on carbon-neutral new industries.

The Pohang Smart City Promotion Pavilion, set up with 25 booths (225㎡), was utilized to promote the Smart City Challenge Project being pursued by Pohang City, showcase smart city solutions held by local companies, and serve as a networking space with participating organizations and companies.

At the Pohang City booth, local companies and institutions such as POSCO Holdings, Pohang Technopark, POSTECH, and Mobiligent, as well as companies participating in the Pohang Smart City Challenge Project, participated to exhibit and provide hands-on experiences with various smart city-related technologies, solutions, and services in the fields of transportation, safety, digital administration, and data.

Pohang City received the 'City' category award at the World Smart City Expo Awards at this expo.

This award highly evaluated Pohang City's efforts to establish a dedicated organization for smart city promotion with the goals of citizen engagement, regional coexistence, and venture innovation, as well as its proactive policies to solve urban problems through public-private-industry cooperation and efforts to commercialize related technologies.

Additionally, the establishment of cooperative systems with domestic and international companies and organizations, and the continuous promotion of exchanges, also influenced the evaluation.

Mayor Lee Kangdeok said, "It is meaningful to be recognized for the achievements we have made in pursuing a sustainable smart city that citizens can truly experience," and added, "We will do our best to efficiently solve urban problems through smart city projects, improve the quality of life for citizens, and transform into a region-leading model city for smart industries by building a smart city industry cluster based on public-private-industry-academia cooperation."
