Freeze Seoul Partner Hotel
Exhibition of Works by Artists Park Seon-gi and Park Seo-bo
"Expecting Increase in Occupancy Rate and Food & Beverage Sales"
The Shilla Seoul Hotel transforms into a cultural and artistic space to mark the opening of ‘Frieze Seoul 2024.’ Frieze Seoul is a large-scale art fair featuring over 110 galleries from 32 countries worldwide.
The Shilla Seoul Hotel announced on the 4th that as a partner hotel, it will host various exhibitions by artists such as Park Sun-ki, Park Seo-bo, and Lee Bae throughout the hotel, including the lobby, arcade, and outdoor swimming pool.
The exhibition begins in the lobby of The Shilla Seoul Hotel. Park Sun-ki’s work ‘Combination,’ which depicts an endless Milky Way, is complemented by additional black version collaborative works installed throughout the lobby.
The artworks in the lobby, newly renovated with a black concept, harmonize with Lee Bae’s ‘Brushstroke’ series, which was newly exhibited last year, adding depth and vitality to make the lobby space appear as one connected artwork. Park Sun-ki’s entire collection filling The Shilla Seoul Hotel lobby connects and overlaps with existing works, creating a large-scale installation rarely seen in any hotel worldwide.
On the basement first floor arcade of The Shilla Seoul Hotel, two impressive works by Park Seo-bo, who led the flow of contemporary Korean art with his ‘Myobeop’ (a method of drawing as if painting), are exhibited. These works embody the worldview of Eastern painting by incorporating the concept of time into the completion of the painting through repeated actions of drawing lines with a pencil before the paint dries, erasing them with paint, and drawing lines again on the canvas covered with paint.
An exhibition of works by artist Park Seo-bo held at the arcade on the B1 floor of the Shilla Hotel in Seoul.
Additional works by Lee Bae can be found in the basement first floor arcade. The Cho Hyun Gallery Seoul is holding Lee Bae’s solo exhibition ‘Between.’ The exhibition features striking sculptural and painting works contrasting black and white, on display until November 10.
At the outdoor swimming pool ‘Urban Island,’ graffiti works by the artist ‘Mauz,’ who showcases art beyond the boundaries of online and offline through collaboration with Gallery Stan, which introduces experimental and creative works, are exhibited. Upon entering Urban Island, visitors will encounter a graffiti piece measuring 5 meters wide and 2 meters high on a temporary wall facing them.
The Shilla Seoul Hotel also expects to benefit from hosting Frieze Seoul, as numerous visitors come to Seoul to attend the event. Since the first Frieze Seoul in 2022, the hotel’s room occupancy rate and food and beverage sales have significantly increased during the event period. The number of guests related to Frieze Seoul last year rose by 20% compared to 2022, and this year is expected to increase by more than 20% compared to last year. Food and beverage sales, including all-day dining, fine dining, room service, and alcoholic beverages, increased by 50% compared to 2022.
