Gangdong-gu Expands CPR Training to Include District Office Employees

Starting This Month, Education at Former Emergency Medical Education Center
'Visiting Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training' Available Year-Round

Gangdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Su-hee) announced on the 4th that it has been operating "CPR training for employees" at the district emergency medical education center since the 3rd.

Gangdong-gu, which opened the emergency medical education center in January, expanded CPR training this month to include employees of the district office, public health centers, and community centers to improve their response capabilities in case of cardiac arrest patients. The training covers adult CPR theory and practice, use of automated external defibrillators, and emergency airway obstruction treatment.

In addition to employee training, the district operates regular CPR training sessions every week for residents and childcare teachers, and plans to expand training for AED managers and school staff at the permanent training center in September and October.

Furthermore, for groups that find it difficult to use the permanent training center, the district accepts applications year-round for "visiting CPR training" conducted at local schools and workplaces.

Acute cardiac arrest, which occurs unexpectedly, causes the heart to stop, and brain damage occurs after 4 minutes, with mortality rates rising sharply. Therefore, CPR by bystanders before the arrival of the 119 emergency medical team is crucial. In fact, in June, a Gangdong-gu resident who had received regular CPR training saved a life through prompt action.

Mayor Lee Su-hee, who attended the first employee training session, said, "We will continue to strengthen the emergency treatment capabilities of public officials and residents by expanding continuous CPR training so that lives can be saved quickly in emergency situations."
