Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on the 4th that it held discussions with a Bulgarian government delegation to cooperate on building local social overhead capital (SOC), including the construction of a large nuclear power plant in Kozloduy.

On the 2nd, Yoon Young-jun, President of Hyundai Engineering & Construction, met with Vladimir Malinov, Minister of Energy of Bulgaria, Petar Kraichev, Bulgarian Ambassador to Korea, and Petyo Ivanov, President of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, at the headquarters in Gye-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.

Bulgaria is carrying out a project with Hyundai Engineering & Construction to add two large nuclear reactors to the Kozloduy nuclear power plant complex. Both parties agreed to sign an engineering contract in October.

In his welcoming remarks, President Yoon said, “Since being selected as the preferred bidder, Hyundai Engineering & Construction has been faithfully carrying out the necessary procedures, focusing on cooperation through localization and national contribution,” adding, “Based on our world-class construction capabilities in the nuclear power sector, we will successfully carry out the Kozloduy nuclear power plant project to provide Bulgaria with a safe and stable energy source.”

In response, Vladimir Malinov, Minister of Energy of Bulgaria, said, “Hyundai Engineering & Construction is a highly reliable partner, and I am confident that the project will be successfully executed,” adding, “We will actively support expanding mutual cooperation on new projects within Bulgaria based on this project.”

With the green light for entry into the European nuclear power market, Hyundai Engineering & Construction launched its localization strategy by holding the ‘Hyundai Engineering & Construction Nuclear Power Roadshow 2024’ in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, in June. During the roadshow, President Yoon met with high-ranking officials including Rumen Radev, President of Bulgaria, and the leaders of the first and second largest parties to establish a friendly cooperation foundation.
