Recently, a man who passed the correctional officer civil service exam has sparked controversy for repeatedly sending abusive messages to women he did not know. It has been revealed that he is preparing to become a firefighter. On the 3rd, a man in his 20s, Mr. A, posted a photo of a study cafe on his social media (SNS) with the caption, "The place that made my correctional officer pass. Please support me for firefighting as well."

Mr. A also posted a photo of a convenience store with the message, "Last day of my part-time job. Finishing strong and focusing solely on the firefighting exam. Just repeating studying and exercising. My goal is to pass by 2025." He is also known to have uploaded numerous photos of study materials for the firefighting civil service exam.

Earlier, on the 20th, according to JTBC's 'Incident Commander,' Mr. A sent abusive messages through SNS to dozens of unknown women, saying things like "Your face looks like sh*t," "Ugly b*tch," "Ugly face and a trash job," "My eyes are rotting," "You're not a princess, so what’s with the princess look?" and "Do I have to see your ugly face first thing in the morning to get angry?" The victims publicized their experiences on SNS, and over 30 victims were identified.

At that time, when the victims checked Mr. A’s SNS, it was revealed that he had passed the 2024 9th-grade civil service correctional officer open recruitment. Mr. A posted his certificate of acceptance on SNS, stating, "I will become a humble and honest correctional officer," along with photos of himself in uniform and the Ministry of Justice website address.

When asked by victims why he behaved this way, he replied, "It’s fun to cause chaos on SNS. Wearing the title of correctional officer and tormenting the public, that kind of deviation is thrilling." To another victim, he said, "I am a patient taking medication for obsessive-compulsive disorder. I can’t control myself either. If I don’t do this, I get very anxious."

In response to the controversy, the Ministry of Justice stated, "Considering the serious damage to the dignity of the recruitment candidate, the social disturbance caused, and the high moral standards required for correctional officers, strict measures will be taken." Afterwards, Mr. A posted on his SNS, "I have arrived at the Correctional Headquarters. I will give a good statement as much as I reflect."

According to Article 14, Paragraph 1, Clause 5 of the current Civil Service Appointment Decree, if a recruitment candidate commits acts that significantly damage their dignity and it is deemed difficult for them to perform their duties as a civil servant, they lose their qualification as a recruitment candidate.
