Construction of an Astronomical Science Museum in Yongma Waterfall Park, Jungnang-gu... Design Competition Announced

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is conducting a design competition for the construction of an astronomical science center.

This project was planned to revitalize the community's science and cultural experiences and to create an astronomical science education space linked to the elementary, middle, and high school curricula.

The "Jungnang-gu Astronomical Science Center" is scheduled to be built on a 3,638㎡ site within Yongma Waterfall Park. The facility will include an observatory, a planetarium, exhibition rooms, classrooms, and a science playground.

Yongma Waterfall Park, where the astronomical science center will be established, features Asia's largest artificial waterfall and a sports climbing area. The district plans to utilize the aging children's playground site within the park to build the astronomical science center along with a new children's science playground. The existing facilities and the newly constructed astronomical science center will provide an experiential educational space that harmonizes nature and culture for local residents and tourists.

The district will start the design announcement on the 4th through the Seoul City design competition and the Jungnang-gu Office website. Participant registration will take place on September 11 and 12. Subsequently, the winning design will be selected and announced in November, and the detailed design service will commence in December.

The astronomical science center project aims to begin construction in 2025 and complete it in 2026.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, "The importance of nurturing talent in the space science field, a key future growth engine, is increasing day by day," adding, "Through various educational and experiential programs at the Jungnang-gu Astronomical Science Center, we will help children and youth cultivate their dreams for the future."
