Repeated Training on Lower Water Supply Pipe Nozzle and Smothering Fire Cover Use
Fire Department and Police Sign Business Agreement ... Establishing a Rapid Fire Response System
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) announced on the 3rd that it conducted an ‘Electric Vehicle Fire Response Drill’ in front of the electric vehicle charging station located on the first floor parking lot of the district office.
In response to the recent increase in electric vehicle fire incidents, the purpose is to establish a rapid and effective electric vehicle fire response system so that residents can use the district office charging station with peace of mind.
The drill was conducted in two parts targeting employees from the building management department and the electric vehicle operation department.
In the first part, participants learned the ‘basics of electric vehicle fires,’ including ▲initial suppression ▲response considering the characteristics of electric vehicle batteries ▲safety measures, and in the second part, a fire suppression drill assuming an electric vehicle fire was conducted.
The employees improved their electric vehicle fire response capabilities by repeatedly practicing the use of the ‘underbody water nozzle,’ a device that sprays water directly upward onto the battery from under the vehicle, and the ‘smothering fire suppression cover,’ which blocks air inflow to prevent the spread of toxic gases and flames.
On this day, Yongdu 119 Safety Center, Yushin Plantech Co., Ltd., a fire inspection agency for Dongdaemun-gu, and Guard K Co., Ltd., a specialized electric vehicle fire prevention equipment company, participated to support the safe conduct of the drill.
On the 26th of last month, Dongdaemun-gu signed a business agreement with Dongdaemun Fire Station and Dongdaemun Police Station for the prevention and response to electric vehicle fires.
The main contents of the agreement include ▲conducting joint electric vehicle fire response drills at least once a year ▲establishing a role-sharing plan during fire response ▲building an emergency contact network.
A district official stated, “We will regularize response drills so that residents can safely use electric vehicles, and work closely with the fire department and police to ensure rapid initial suppression in case of fire.”
