Korea Zinc is participating in the World Climate Industry Expo (WCE) for the second consecutive year to promote its climate crisis response strategies and the importance of its new growth engine, the 'Troika Drive' project.

Korea Zinc announced on the 3rd that it will set up a booth in the Carbon-Free Energy Pavilion (Clean Energy Zone) at the 2024 World Climate Industry Expo, held for three days from the 4th to the 6th of this month at BEXCO in Busan. The company plans to share the current status and roadmap of its renewable energy and green hydrogen (hydrogen produced from renewable energy) projects, as well as its resource circulation business. Participating in the expo for the second time, Korea Zinc will focus on promoting the vision of its 'renewable energy and green hydrogen business' and 'resource circulation business,' which are core pillars of the 'Troika Drive.'

The exhibition hall is predominantly decorated in green to express the commitment to eco-friendliness. Using a main diorama, Korea Zinc will provide detailed explanations of the development and production processes of renewable energy, including wind and solar power in Australia, which serves as the hub for its renewable energy business. Visitors can also explore the value chain of renewable energy and green hydrogen projects, from the storage and transportation of green hydrogen and green ammonia to their utilization. Information on sustainable aviation fuel and clean marine fuel using green hydrogen will also be introduced.

Korea Zinc has officially launched its renewable energy business by completing a 125 MW solar power plant, the largest in Australia, on the site of its subsidiary SMC smelter. Currently, this solar power plant supplies 25% of the annual electricity demand of the SMC smelter. In addition, in 2022, through its Australian subsidiary Ark Energy, Korea Zinc acquired Epuron, a company with expertise in renewable energy development and operation. The expo will showcase the portfolio of renewable energy projects centered in Australia, as well as the management and development status of renewable energy assets.

Moreover, Korea Zinc will showcase the hydrogen refueling station and hydrogen forklifts it introduced last month on the 28th at its smelter in the Onsan National Industrial Complex, marking the first hydrogen refueling station in South Korea. The hydrogen refueling station for forklifts, which began construction in March 2023, has a charging capacity of 55 kg per hour, capable of refueling 12 hydrogen forklifts per hour.

Korea Zinc possesses technology to recycle waste solar panels, which were previously landfilled, into valuable metals through processes such as panel pretreatment (disassembly, crushing, sorting), post-treatment via smelting, and organically integrated direct recycling smelting (DRS process). The expo will also introduce new possibilities in the resource circulation business discovered from end-of-life solar waste panels.

Jung Moo-kyung, Head of Korea Zinc’s Sustainable Management Division, stated, "Through this exhibition, we aim to widely promote Korea Zinc’s climate crisis response and decarbonization strategies, and to provide a deeper understanding of the vision for our new growth engines: the 'renewable energy and green hydrogen business' and the 'resource circulation business.' This exhibition will allow visitors to experience Korea Zinc’s efforts to evolve from a global smelting company into an eco-friendly energy and materials company."
