Chinese Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Killing Debtor After Argument

On the 3rd, at a trial held before the 13th Criminal Division of the Seoul Southern District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Sang-yeon), the prosecution requested a 20-year prison term for Kim and also called for the attachment of an electronic monitoring device and probation orders.

The prosecution stated, "The defendant caused the victim's death and continued with his daily life," adding, "The victim's body was left unattended, and the bereaved family is still suffering extreme pain."

The victim's family tearfully said, "The mother, who raised us with great hardship since we were young, was our only family," and pleaded, "We humbly ask for a strict punishment."

Kim's defense attorney appealed, "Kim fully admits his wrongdoing, but he has no prior criminal record in either China or Korea, and the incident occurred impulsively during the process of recovering money," and added, "Many acquaintances have requested leniency, so we ask for a light sentence."

Earlier, on January 11, Kim strangled a woman in her 60s, Ms. A, to death by compressing her neck in a villa located in Daerim-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, during an argument over a debt. Ms. A's daughter discovered and reported the incident about 20 days after it occurred, and the police arrested Kim on the street in Seosan, Chungnam, in March.
