The team, consisting of Kong Sungwook, Kang Minji, Kim Yeonhee, Kwon Dokyung, Seol Jungyun, Cho Yejin, and Chu Seungmin from the Department of Architecture at Pukyong National University (supervised by Professor Noh Jihwa), was honored with the Grand Prize for their project “New Media, New Alley, New Street” at the workshop held at Busan National University on the 24th and 25th.
This workshop brought together architecture students from universities in the Busan region and students from universities in the Kyushu region of Japan, with a total of 16 teams from Korea and Japan, including the Pukyong National University team.
The theme of this year’s workshop was remodeling the Seomyeon Bujeon Library, the first library in Busan, from the perspective of new media tech and urban public space.
The Pukyong National University students worked on their project design over the vacation with their supervising professor and, through mentoring from architects Fujiwara Teppei and Kaiho Kei, winners of the 2023 JIA New Architect Award, submitted panels and models reflecting the meaning and value of “alley” for humans, earning the highest evaluation.
The Department of Architecture students at Pukyong National University have participated in the Korea-Japan Joint Student Architecture Workshop (JIA) every year, and following last year’s Encouragement Award at the workshop held in Kyushu, achieved outstanding results again this year.
