Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will hold a commemorative ceremony at 10 a.m. on September 4th in the small auditorium of the Songpa Women’s Culture Center to mark the “Gender Equality Week,” which runs from September 1st to 7th.
“Gender Equality Week” was established based on the Framework Act on Gender Equality to raise public awareness and realize a gender-equal society in all areas.
The district holds an annual commemorative event to pledge its commitment and practice toward spreading a culture of substantive gender equality by ensuring that women and men participate equally, receive equal treatment, and share equal responsibilities and rights.
This year’s Gender Equality Week commemorative ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on the 4th at the Songpa Women’s Culture Center under the theme “Songpa, a City of Gender Equality that Respects, Cares, and Cooperates.”
The event will begin with a performance by a senior model walking team composed of students from the Women’s Culture Center, followed by a gender equality campaign screening, awards for contributors to gender equality, and a performance to announce the gender equality slogan.
In particular, during the awards ceremony for contributors to the realization of gender equality, 10 teams will be honored for their outstanding achievements in various fields such as “Model Gender Equality Families,” “Creating Family-Friendly Environments,” “Expanding Women’s Social Participation,” and “Strengthening Women’s Human Rights and Safety.”
Additionally, the slogan performance will use 3D video to express a strong commitment to spreading awareness of gender equality. The dominoes that start on stage will continue as dominoes in the video, symbolizing everyone’s wish for gender equality, spreading throughout Songpa-gu to represent the realization of “Songpa, a City of Gender Equality.”
As a side event, from the 2nd to the 6th during Gender Equality Week, a sewing art exhibition themed “Hands Helping Each Other” will be held in the lobby on the first floor of the Songpa Women’s Culture Center. On the 4th, various events such as a mini art market by young artists, bread sales by the senior club (Dangmi Bakery), gender equality book curation, and omok printmaking experience will be held to inform residents about the meaning of gender equality.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “I hope many residents participate in the Gender Equality Week commemorative event to reflect on the meaning of gender equality and learn ways to practice it,” adding, “Going forward, Songpa-gu will continue to create a happy society where all genders participate equally and are respected in all areas.”
