'Senior Laundry' Opens at Myeongji University Station in Yeokbuk-dong, Yongin

Yongin City, Part of Senior Employment Project... Laundry Room Management and Washing Service
Mayor Sang-il Lee "Will Promote Various Projects for Senior Jobs"

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 3rd that it held an opening ceremony for the 'Senior Laundry' self-service laundromat at Myeongji University Station on the 2nd, providing jobs for senior citizens, and has officially started operations.


The 'Senior Laundry,' located at 453-1 Yeokbuk near Myeongji University Station on the Yongin Light Rail Transit, is a project promoted after the city was selected in Gyeonggi Province's 'Senior Job Creation Support Project' contest. The city invested a total of 150 million KRW, including 75 million KRW from the provincial government and 75 million KRW from the city budget.

The operation is managed by the Yongin Senior Club, an institution supporting senior jobs, and runs the laundromat with added laundry services. Seniors are responsible for managing the laundromat and providing laundry services requested by business partners. A total of 14 seniors work in three teams, handling laundromat user guidance, collection, washing, drying, and delivery of laundry from business partners. The laundromat is equipped with three large washing machines and two two-tier dryers, and citizens can use it 24 hours a day, year-round.


About 50 people attended the opening ceremony, including Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, Yoo Jin-seon, Chairperson of Yongin City Council, Kim Sang-su, Chairperson of the City Council's Culture and Welfare Committee, Kim Ki-tae, Director of Cheoin Senior Welfare Center, Jo Dang-ho, CEO of Lotus Village, participating senior workers, and residents.


Mayor Lee said, "We will continue to actively secure budgets through government and public institution contest projects to promote various initiatives such as job creation for seniors and expansion of welfare."


Meanwhile, this Senior Laundry is the 13th 'Market-Type Senior Job Project' promoted by Yongin City, including caf? openings, convenience store operations, snack manufacturing, and station assistant services. This year, the city is investing a budget of 25.1 billion KRW, an increase of 10.4 billion KRW compared to last year, providing various jobs to 5,900 seniors.
