Dongdaemun-gu 'Happy Lights Out Film Festival' Held

8.24.~31. 3-Day 'Happy Lights-Out Village Film Festival' Held at 3 Apartments
Turning Off Apartment Lights and Watching Movies Outdoors with Residents to Foster Community Harmony

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that it held the ‘Happy Lights-Off Village Film Festival’ at three apartment complexes to promote carbon neutrality in daily life.

This film festival was organized in August, when electricity consumption increases, to encourage households to turn off their lights and watch movies outdoors with neighbors, fostering communication.

The event took place on the 24th of last month at Raemian Midcounty Apartments, on the 29th at Dapsimni Raemian Weave Apartments, and on the 31st at Cheongsol Woosung Apartments. These apartments participate in the multi-family housing division of ‘Carbon Talks Dongdaemun,’ a district-wide citizen action organization for carbon neutrality in Dongdaemun-gu, continuing their carbon neutrality efforts.

In particular, the event at Dapsimni Raemian Weave Apartments on the 29th was crowded with residents who came with their families. Before the screening, various experience booths attracted children’s interest, including making accessories from recycled plastic, creating natural moss pots using coffee grounds, and making natural soap.

Before the movie screening, a climate documentary was shown to raise awareness of the necessity of carbon neutrality and climate change. Residents enjoyed watching the animation ‘Elemental’ with their families.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “I am proud that many residents participated in this meaningful event where families turned off their air conditioners and lights and gathered with neighbors to communicate,” adding, “I hope that energy saving and the culture of practicing carbon neutrality in daily life will spread throughout the local community.”
