Boseong-gun to Host 'Leisure Mudflat Boat Race' at Beolgyo Mudflat

Traditional Mudflat Boat Riding and Mudflat Futsal Events
Abundant Food Including Jjangttungeo Fried and Chilge Fried

Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 2nd that it will hold the ‘National Important Agricultural and Fishery Heritage Festival and the 9th Beolgyo Mudflat Leisure Ttaelbae Competition’ running on the Boseong Beolgyo Mudflat, registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, at Jangyang Fishing Village Experience Village on the 7th.


At the opening ceremony on the day, starting with a youth dance competition team performance and a congratulatory performance by Good Friends of Korean Percussion, the event will feature ▲traditional ttaelbae competition for experts with over 30 years of experience ▲10 types of leisure ttaelbae competitions ▲fishery heritage exhibition and promotion hall ▲Korean mudflat VR experience ▲catching mudflat creatures and free tasting ▲free ball pool for children ▲face painting, and a total of 29 events.

Tourists wishing to participate in the competition can pre-register through the Boseong County Office website or Naver form, or register on-site by 10 a.m. on the day of the event. Generous prizes and awards are also prepared for each competition program.


The ‘9th Leisure Ttaelbae Competition’ is hosted by the Beolgyo Mudflat Leisure Ttaelbae Competition Promotion Committee and sponsored by Boseong-gun, planned to widely promote the value of the National Important Fishery Heritage No. 2, ‘Boseong Ttaelbae Fishery.’


This unique competition, where participants race for speed riding the ‘ttaelbae,’ a means of transportation used to dig for Beolgyo cockles, a representative specialty of Boseong, can be enjoyed by everyone from children to adults.


Additionally, as a side event, a youth dance competition will be held, along with a mudflat futsal competition held on the fine mudflats, and free tasting booths offering mudskippers and shore crabs inhabiting the Boseong Beolgyo Mudflat, making the festival even more abundant.


Meanwhile, on September 6th, an ‘International Academic Seminar on Ttaelbae Fishery’ will be held discussing topics such as the recent trends of the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (Dr. Aurelie), the value of the Yeoja Bay area Boseong Beolgyo Mudflat (Professor Kim Jun), and the global importance and value of mudflat fishery in the Boseong area using ttaelbae (Professor Yagi, Dr. Hwang Gilsik), under the theme of ‘The Importance and Conservation Value of Boseong Ttaelbae Fishery.’
